The on-premises data gateway is software that you install in an on-premises network. The gateway facilitates access to the Dynamics GP SQL Server on your network.
You must install the data gateway in standard mode. In that mode, you can install a standalone gateway or add a gateway to a cluster, which we recommend for high availability scenarios.
The on-premises data gateway software can be installed, “on any server or machine with a direct line of sight to your Dynamics GP SQL Server”, as per Microsoft documentation. This means that you can install the gateway on any computer on your network and not necessarily on your Dynamics GP SQL Server machine.
